Hailey Knows About Safety

On Friday Hailey called me from school to tell me that she won a bike.  I was a little confused so I asked her how. She told me that she wrote an essay about being safe and wearing a helmet and that the office ladies wanted to know if I could come pick it up.  I didn’t want her to think I didn’t trust her but a bike is not the kind of prize I got in school. So I asked her to ask the ladies if I could pick it up after school just so I knew that the office was aware of this “prize”.  Sure enough they said after school was fine.  So we met Hailey after school to pick up her bike at the office.  I still didn’t know if I could believe her,  but a very nice office lady wheeled out her brand new purple princess bike.  We found her teacher so that I could get the whole story.  Hailey wrote an essay about being safe all by herself. She sounded out the words she didn’t know and everything.  It is a very cute essay and I would love to post it but it is currently hanging on the wall at school for all too see.  She is very proud.  And she knows that Wally will think her bike is neat even if it has a princess on it. So thanks to the donation from Ken Garff we have a very happy first grader!!

A Momentous Occasion… (Part 2)

So apparently Hailey doesn’t just have one loose tooth…

SHE HAS 2!

Today, while chomping on a cracker before dance class, she noticed that one of her top front teeth is also loose. So now, as she quite excitedly announced to me, she thinks she’s going to get two million-gazillion dollars.

I just hope the tooth fairy has the foresight to swing past Fort Knox before coming to pick up her teeth.

UPDATE!!!

Make that 3 loose teeth. Both of her top front teeth are now loose.

A Momentous Occasion…

So I was on my way home today when my cell phone rang. The fact that I heard it ring was a noteworthy event in itself, but I soon learned that this was no ordinary phone call…

I picked up the phone and said “Hello?”.

On the other end, in her rather quiet phone voice, Hailey said “Hi Dad.”

I immediately assumed that this was Hailey’s regular afternoon call to ask when I would be home, but she quickly broke into a story about eating an apple earlier in the day. I was trying to provide my full attention while trying not to die as I turned off Bangerter Highway near Jordon Landing, but even as I multi-tasked my way through the intersection I was able to understand the main point of her story.

“I’ve got a loose tooth Dad!”

In the picture above she’s trying to provide a good view of the offending incisor (your guess is as good as mine as to which one it is).

I can’t say that I remember my reaction to my first loose tooth but with many friends in the same boat at school, she’s rather excited to be part of an exclusive crowd. Although I think we’re going to need to straighten her out with regards to the tooth fairy. Unfortunately, I don’t think she’s going to get the million-gazillion dollars she’s apparently expecting.
